Nordzucker at the SugarBeet Expo
Developing solutions for the future of beet farming together: Nordzucker had its own stand at the first SugarBeet Expo on 9 and 10 September in Gestorf near Springe, Germany. The new trade fair – held in conjunction with Potato Europe – provided a platform for practical discussions with experts from agriculture, consultancy, research and industry on topics such as technology, digitalisation and cultivation methods. It became clear that the demands placed on beet cultivation are changing and that collaborative solutions are becoming increasingly important.
Focus on SBR and plant health
Key topics at the Nordzucker stand were the beet diseases SBR and Stolbur and how to manage them. These diseases not only affect cultivation but can also have an impact on the entire process chain, from beet logistics to processing at the factories. That is why the teams at Nordzucker work closely together, combining insights from cultivation, logistics and production. Digital tools and experience gained over recent months help to identify developments at an early stage and make informed decisions. Key measures for containment include adjustments to crop rotation, monitoring and the control of the cicada Pentastiridius leporinus, as well as the development of resistant varieties.
Sustainability and CO₂ reduction
Sustainability and resource efficiency in beet cultivation were another key focus of the event. Nordzucker provided information on projects aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions in beet cultivation, particularly regarding the use of low-carbon fertilisers.
Valuable dialogue with growers
The in-depth dialogue with growers was particularly positive. The many on-site discussions highlighted just how valuable different perspectives from the fields, research and advisory services are for putting current developments into context and jointly developing solutions.
