Nordzucker Post 3/2025 - 2 September 2025
Slightly negative result in the first quarter
As expected, the Nordzucker Group closed the first quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year at the end of May 2025 with a slightly negative result.
At 603 million Euro, Group revenue did not reach the high level of the same period last year (692 million Euro). Operating profit (EBIT) was minus 6 million Euro, compared with plus 124 million Euro in the first quarter of the previous year.
The significant drop in sugar prices on both the EU and global markets thus had an impact on the results for the first three months. An increase in sales volumes for beet and cane sugar only partially offset the low prices. In addition, the high production costs of the 2024/2025 campaign continue to weigh on earnings.
“Sugar prices on the EU and world markets are currently stabilising at a low level. Accordingly, the market situation is expected to remain tense for the time being,” explains COO Alexander Godow with regard to the markets.
Nordzucker had budgeted a negative result in the low double-digit million range for the 2025/26 financial year due to the fall in prices. Various cost optimisation initiatives were launched early last year and Nordzucker intensified its existing excellence programmes. “Our goal is to stabilise the result for the current financial year compared to the original assumption through comprehensive optimisation measures. Nevertheless, due to current market developments in the EU and global markets, we continue to assume that a negative result will be unavoidable,” explains CFO Alexander Bott.
