Nordzucker Post Special Edition 2/2026 - 5 February 2026
Responsibility for the future: strategic transformation
Dear readers,
Challenging times in particular demonstrate the importance of clarity and joint action. The past few months have been characterised by good harvests and stable processing performance in many regions, but at the same time we are operating in a market environment that is expected to be highly volatile, with overcapacity and noticeable price pressure.
Part of our Fields for Growth strategy, which aims to position the Group for long-term profitability in a volatile market environment and further optimise cost structures, is to evaluate the economic viability of our sites in Europe.
After careful analysis of the economic and structural conditions, Nordzucker will discontinue sugar production at our Slovakian site in Trenčianská Teplá after the 2025/26 campaign and continue to operate the site as a Commercial & Logistic hub in future. We will ensure that we continue to supply our customers competently as usual.
As much as we recognise this strategic necessity, we are also aware that the closure of sugar production at the Trenčianská Teplá site is a major change, especially for the employees and farms affected. At the same time, this step is important in order to stabilise the company as a whole and make it more competitive.
In order to put our company on a stable foundation for the long term and secure our competitiveness, we launched a package of cost optimisation measures at the beginning of 2025 and will not only continue to implement these consistently in 2026, but also expand them.
Our common goal remains unchanged: a profitable and sustainable core business in sugar from beet. We can only achieve this goal together with a great deal of commitment and courage.
With kind regards
Lars Gorissen, CEO
