Political dialogue: Focus on SBR, GoGreen and sugar as an economic factor

Experience has shown that the campaign provides an impressive setting for personal impressions and practical discussions with political decision-makers.

Currently, these discussions are focusing primarily on the SBR complex and the challenges of dealing with the diseases transmitted by the reed glasswing cicada, as well as the ongoing measures for decarbonising sugar production as part of our GoGreen programme. Tailor-made roadmaps for our beet processing plants will not only increase the energy efficiency of sugar factories, but also aim to ensure CO₂-neutral production by 2050 at the latest (in Germany by 2045).

The investments made and planned at the individual locations are of great relevance to members of parliament at EU, federal and state level, not least because they highlight the importance of sugar as an economic factor for the regions.

The importance of the sugar industry for rural areas was also emphasised by the German Federal Minister of Agriculture Alois Rainer in his speech at the opening of the new office of the sugar associations in Berlin on 24 September 2025. The current topic of SBR was once again explicitly on the agenda during Rainer’s visit to the Elbtalaue model region at the end of October.

With our offers of dialogue and invitations to visit the factories, we offer politicians a constructive exchange with well-founded information and practical relevance for the various issues that a commercial enterprise in the agricultural and food industry has to deal with.
