Campaign: Stable progress and good harvesting conditions
The 2025/2026 campaign has been underway in all European Nordzucker factories since the beginning of September. The factory in Schladen began on 3 September with the processing of organic beet, followed by the conventional campaigns. At many regions, this year’s campaign is expected to continue until mid-January 2026.
The sugar beet campaign has got off to a good start at all German factories and processing is very stable. Conditions in the fields and in the factory are good in most of our growing regions. In the drier growing areas in particular – with the exception of Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – there is less soil adhering to the beets. This means less soil in our ponds, cleaner processing overall and good conditions for storage.
Despite the changeable weather conditions, with a wet early summer followed by a dry spell, good beet yields with high sugar content are being achieved – the beet yields are surprising given the current rather dry conditions. The higher sugar content also means less water transport and less evaporation in the factory – both of which contribute to more sustainable production.
The quality of the sugar beets has been good so far. Symptoms of Syndrome Basses Richesses (SBR) are appearing in the Schladen and Klein Wanzleben catchment areas, but the impact on processing is currently not as severe as initially expected. It can be assumed that the disease will continue to spread in the future, so the effects of SBR should not be underestimated.
