Säkylä sugar plant (Finland)
The Säkylä plant which began operations in 1953 is located in west Finland. The plant today produces sugar, molasses and animal feed. It can now process up to 7,500 tonnes of sugar beet per day. Fine sugar is packed into BigBags or sold in bulk directly to the further processing industry or via the Porkkala plant. The solid cellulose is sold to animal feed factories for further processing. The plant has around 80 permanent employees who are supported by another 50 temporary employees during the campaign.
