First nine months of financial year 2011/2012: Nordzucker reports excellent earnings

Nordzucker has more than doubled Group earnings in the first three quarters of the 2011/2012 financial year compared withthe same period a year ago. Earnings rose from EUR 64.4 million in the previous year to EUR 139.0 million. The operatingresult (EBIT) also significantly increased from EUR 134.3 million to EUR 206.5 million. Revenues came to EUR 1,476.9 million, after EUR 1,361.0 million in the previous year. Thatrepresents an increase in revenues of around 8.5 per cent.

Nordzucker has made active use of the opportunities that thepositive market environment presented this financial year. Thishas contributed to the excellent earnings, as have the costcuttingmeasures from the long-term efficiency programmeProfitability plus. The company also profited from the landmarkstrategic decision to dispose of all unprofitable investments andconcentrate on the core business, which is sugar.

The assumption is that markets will continue to performstrongly, both for the remainder of the current financial yearand in the first months of the new financial year. The goodharvest of 2011 should also generate more sales opportunities. At the moment, Nordzucker is anticipating unusually goodearnings for the 2011/2012 financial year.

“This excellent result confirms that we have chosen the rightpath to follow. We intend to use our current strength as the second largest producer in the EU sugar market to keep growing and to expand our market position,” says Hartwig Fuchs, CEO of Nordzucker AG.
